DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND SOCIAL GOVERNANCE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

1 National University of Singapore

Abstract

This paper investigates the interaction between digital economic develop-ment and social governance in Southeast Asian countries. It examines the experienc-es of Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, focusing on digital public services, e-gov-ernment, and governance of online platforms. Findings suggest that while digital trans-formation improves efficiency and transparency, it also exacerbates the digital divide and social inequality. The paper argues that regional cooperation, investment in digital infrastructure, and cross-national policy coordination are essential for inclusive and sustainable governance in the digital age.
